December 12, 2009

Had a little get-together at my house tonight – my annual tree-trimming, Karaoke, and now Beatles Rock Band party. There’s always a great mix of people, fun to be had, good food to be eaten, and some imbibing to be done.

The only damper on the evening was the dampness (yes, pun intended). It rained all day (and when I say “all day,” I ain’t kidding). My outdoor Christmas lights shorted out, there was a flood in my driveway, and the dogs had to stay inside to help with the partying (normally, they’re banished to the back yard for as long as possible before joining the festivities).

Here is the progression of said party. (The only photo I realize I did NOT get was one of the rain – you’ll have to trust me on that!)

December 12, 2009 – 1

I put some starter ornaments on the tree, but it’s virtually bare – ready and waiting for the decorating elves to arrive!

December 12, 2009 – 2

The stage is set for the band to arrive (Beatles Rock Band, that is).

December 12, 2009 – 3

The table looks empty now, but it will soon be overfilled with goodies!

December 12, 2009 – 4

I love decorating the house for Christmas – I was actually quite a bit more subdued this year.

December 12, 2009 – 5

Ahhhh, the table is starting to fill. If you look closely, you’ll see a fondue pot – I finally satisfied my fondue urge!! My second favorite item of the night: bacon-wrapped scallops. YUM.

December 12, 2009 – 6

Two of my party attendees – Cady (is she not the cutest baby ever?) and her mom, Jessica.

December 12, 2009 – 7

Cady reorganizing the DVD shelves. She’s quite good at it.

December 12, 2009 – 8

Madison gets into the act. She looks like she's smiling here, but in reality she was a little grumbly and growly --as an older dog (she’s 12), the crowd gets on her nerves pretty quickly.

December 12, 2009 – 9

Dressed like a candy cane – hey, ‘tis the season, right?

December 12, 2009 – 10a

Dominick and Jim strike a pose!

December 12, 2009 – 10b

Catharine and Dena – kibitzing in the kitchen (the room that always ends up being party central, right?)

December 12, 2009 – 11a

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Beatles!

December 12, 2009 – 11b

Kimberly rockin’ out!

December 12, 2009 – 12

Even with all the rock stars, karaoke singers, and kibitzers, the tree still got decorated! My favorite part of the night: sitting on the couch, sipping a coffee, listening to Christmas music after everyone’s gone and the house is cleaned up, and admiring the tree. (Hence the late posting for my 12 of 12 today!)

Merry Christmas Everybody!!

November 12, 2009

Not a lot scheduled for today, so I did a lot of task-related work. Answered some emails, organized my desk, went to "the office," ran some errands (did not go to FedEx today, for those following my 12-of-12's), then home for an early dinner.

My 12 of 12 is going up early tonight -- I already finished my 12, and, frankly my evening is not going to be that exciting, so I don't think I'll have anything more to show you!

For more about the 12 of 12 project, take a look at Chad Darnell's site!

November 12, 2009 - 1

Waiting for an appointment in my office. They never showed (turns out he had a good reason -- his Blackberry was stolen!).

Instead, I found some busy-work to do, in the form of projects I've had on my to-do list for a while!

November 12, 2009 - 2

Working on the project....

November 12, 2009 - 3

Clouds rolling in over the mountains of Burbank. A lovely fall day (albeit in November).

November 12, 2009 - 4

Here I am at my favorite store, Target. I have a love/hate relationship with Target -- love because I always find everything I need at a good price; hate because I usually buy MORE than I need!!

November 12, 2009 - 5

I got out of Target with basically only the items on my list (pet-related). I only bought one little teeny-tiny extra thing. And I'm not tellin'.....

November 12, 2009 - 6

Another view of our cloudy skies (doesn't this look great??). We transplanted east-coasters love to see a change of sky scenery!

November 12, 2009 - 7

Yes, I know -- fast food sushi is not the way to go. But they make a great little dealio called the "Crazy Boy Roll."

November 12, 2009 - 8

I don't normally frequent this Starbucks (parking is horrible here, and the baristas are equally as bad), but since I was across the way at the sushi place, I couldn't pass it up....

(yes, the barista was horrible. and, boy, does that make a big difference for my drink!)

November 12, 2009 - 9

These tiny little shot-glasses of coffee just kill me.... (I should've taken a photo with a regular-sized cup for comparison.)

But it was tasty, nonetheless!

November 12, 2009 - 10

It's been an interesting trend that I've had an audition on the 12th of the month for several months' now. This month it didn't happen, BUT.... I got an audition for tomorrow!! So does that count?

November 12, 2009 - 11

Yes, I already have my Christmas lights up..... I hire someone to do the work, and got a great cut-rate from the installer if I put them up on November 2nd.

So up they went.

I actually can't wait to turn them on!!

November 12, 2009 - 12

And here's the Crazy Boy Roll ! A lovely combination of fried and sushi. Just delish!

October 12, 2009

Today's 12 of 12 is brought to you by clouds and the threat of rain. We Southern Californians crave rain, and today was the first real taste of it in months (nearly a year). It only teased us, though. However, I'm hearing that we're in for two solid days of "real" rain!

Two themes revealed themselves today: first, I seem to send out a FedEx package on the 12th of every month, and, second, I seem to get auditions on the 12th! I had a busy day on this Columbus Day, and those two items were just part of the adventure.

For more about the 12 of 12 project, take a look at Chad Darnell's site!

October 12, 2009 - 1

And the day begins with.... what else??

(I made this myself!)

October 12, 2009 - 2

A glance outside my home/office window reveals a cool, cloudy, New England-y day. I'm a happy girl!

October 12, 2009 - 3

Spent way too much time this morning plowing my way through health insurance applications (trying to find insurance that won't break me every month and yet still give me coverage when I need it).

Oh, dear people of the United States, let the President do his job -- he's trying to make this better!!

October 12, 2009 - 4

12 of 12 theme #1: I seem to have to prep packages to drop at FedEx on the 12th of the month.

October 12, 2009 - 5

Apparently, the dogs can't believe that I'm actually *leaving* for the day.....

October 12, 2009 - 6

Had a craving for a hot dog (hadn't eaten yet today), so I stopped into Wienerschnitzel for a mustard dog on a pretzel bun. Yum.

October 12, 2009 - 7

Headed across the way to the Warner Brothers lot for an audition for "The Forgotten."

If you look back at other 12 of 12's of mine, you'll notice a theme -- I seem to have auditions on the 12th of the month.

Hmmmmm...... How do I make *every* day the 12th?

October 12, 2009 - 8

This is me being stealth -- I was pretending I was texting (down to the laughter at "reading" a text -- oh, yeah, I'm a good actress :) ).

Notice the thumb at the bottom of the picture....

October 12, 2009 - 9

Coulda used one of these to take me back and forth to my car!

October 12, 2009 - 10

Here's the walk into "Warner Village" -- almost at the audition!

(Had a good read -- and FMW is a great office!)

October 12, 2009 - 11

This was a big, beautiful, dark cloud over the hills behind Warner Brothers. Just gorgeous (and it actually sprinkled a little bit on me as I walked back to my car!)

October 12, 2009 - 12

I was not at my 12 of 12 best today -- I kept forgetting to document my activities. From what I've detailed here, it seems that I had lunch and watched the clouds. But I did more -- really, I did!

Besides what you've seen here, I: met a client to deliver a demo reel, went to three different banks, dropped off the FedEx package, got coffee, met and worked with a client at her house, went to an audition (oh, yeah, I *did* document that one!), went grocery shopping, walked the dogs, and went to my sign language (ASL) class.

I'll try to do better next month!

September 12, 2009

Not an easy day for me. I'm not feeling well, so everything I did took twice as long. The middle of the day was a complete blur (hence the time jump between the morning and evening).

(One thing did NOT happen -- I did not finish all my work!)

[For more on 12 of 12: Chad Darnell's site has the scoop!]

September 12, 2009 - 1

I've had a very dry cough and itchy throat for about a week. Yesterday it really nailed me and I suddenly had trouble breathing (had to rest every two minutes). Sucked. So I went and got some meds until I can see the doctor on Monday. They seem to help a little....

September 12, 2009 - 2

But I have a ton of work to do, from video editing, to client bill preparation, to producing a voiceover demo, to desktop publishing some tech documents. Don't know how I'm going to get it all done....

September 12, 2009 - 3

One of my projects requires a trip to FedEx today.

September 12, 2009 - 4

Becka thinks she's hiding.

September 12, 2009 - 5

Given that my ailment seems to have started with the fires & smoke in the mountains very close to my house, I went out in the morning to check the air quality. Doesn't look too good from here....

September 12, 2009 - 6

The mountain view from a different corner of my yard looks a *little* clearer...

September 12, 2009 - 7

Feeling sick and miserable....

September 12, 2009 - 8

It's a Saturday night. Life in the Flint household is about to get exciting....

September 12, 2009 - 9

Dogs are fed and happy....

September 12, 2009 - 10

... and passed out....

September 12, 2009 - 11

put my feet up....

September 12, 2009 - 12

and there ya go.... my exciting Saturday evening, watching Hotel for Dogs....
